Our School Vision and Values

At Ysgol Golwg Pen y Fan, we create a nurturing, inclusive learning environment, where every child feels safe and supported. We foster positive relationships and a sense of belonging, supporting each child’s well-being and aspirations, preparing them for lifelong learning and future success.

The following words represent the foundations of our vision that permeates through our day-to-day learning in school

Our values

Ready, Respectful, Safe

These values serve as our foundation for fostering a positive and effective school environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. They guide learners, staff and parents in building a culture of preparedness, kindness, and security, all of which are essential for academic and personal success.

Our inclusive curriculum

Our curriculum will raise the aspirations for all learners. As a school we have considered how all learners will be supported to realise the ambitions and aspirations of the four purposes, and to progress. We have considered our ALN provision and how we will meet the needs of different groups of learners.

What does each value mean to us?

Ready

This value reflects being prepared, engaged, and willing to take on challenges. It emphasises a proactive attitude toward learning, responsibility, and readiness for both academic and personal growth.

  • Preparedness: Learners should come to class on time, with all necessary materials and ready to engage and learn. Everyone should support the learner being emotionally and physically ready to learn.
  • Openness: Being open to new ideas, willing to participate, and showing curiosity in the learning process
  • Responsibility: Learners take responsibility for their own learning, including staying organised and managing their time effectively. Staff will ensure there is an enabling environment for all learners.
  • Commitment: Being ready to try one’s best, even when faced with challenges or problems
Respect

Respect in school refers to treating others with dignity, valuing their differences, and fostering an inclusive, supportive community. This value will maintain a positive school culture and is everyone’s responsibility.

  • Kindness: Treating peers, staff and visitors and the environment, with kindness and empathy.
  • Listening: Paying attention when others speak, valuing opinions, and considering different perspectives.
  • Politeness: Using appropriate language and demonstrating good manners in interactions with others.
  • Appreciating Diversity: Recognising and celebrating differences, in background, culture, or opinions, and promoting inclusivity.
  • Conflict Resolution/Restorative conversations: Addressing disagreements calmly and respectfully, aiming for understanding and compromise.
Safe

Safety in our school environment means physical and online safety, emotional and well-being. It encompasses the protection of all learners from harm, whether that harm is physical, emotional, or social.

  • Physical Safety: Ensuring that learners and staff are protected from harm or danger, whether through safe school buildings and outside areas, supervision, around the school, off site visits or emergency preparedness.
  • Emotional Safety: Creating an environment where learners feel comfortable expressing themselves, without fear of bullying, judgment, or ridicule.
  • Support: Providing resources such as counselling, emotional and social support and support systems for learners or staff who may feel vulnerable or face challenges.
  • Anti-Bullying and harassment: Promoting zero tolerance for bullying and ensuring that all learners and staff know they are safe from harassment.
  • Encouraging Trust: Learners and staff should feel confident in seeking help when they feel unsafe, have a concern or are facing challenges, knowing that their concerns will be taken seriously.
